At this year’s Alto Fair Meat & Animal Auction, Liz Wetzel, a senior 4H student and daughter of Eric and Danielle, announced her decision to donate the auction proceeds from her her lamb back to the Alto Fairgrounds and Community to help rebuild after the destructive storms of 2018. Liz observed the generosity of others as they pitched in when her parents suffered devastating damage to their farm from those storms.

This was a generous gesture that would typically result in net proceeds of $500-800.  Dan McGurk from Rens Nursery agreed in advance to match the amount with a donation of trees to be planted at the Fairgrounds and the Alto area.

NBW topped the bidding at $4,340. NBW CEO Jerry O’Connor commented that, “it was easy to place a market value on a lamb, but the unselfish act of this young lady was priceless.  Thank you to the multiple bidders who participated.  From the outset we decided that we would keep bidding regardless of how high the bids would go. It was a great way to give back to the Alto Community.  Liz is a great example of how a small act of selflessness can have a huge impact on a community.  Our check is a way of saying thank you to Liz for her generous act.”
